Zahn has not met with JJ so no Thrawn in The Force Awakens

As the debate and speculation about the Extended Universe being in Episode 7 rises to a *mild* screech across keyboards around the world, a rumour got out that Timothy Zhan had met with JJ Abrams about some kind of involvement in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Zahn wrote a very popular series of Star Wars featuring a player named Thrawn that many fans would like to see in the movie.

But to his credit Zahn has shot down the suggestion he’s in on the action with JJ by leaving a comment on Club Jade’s page saying

“I usually don’t get involved with this stuff, but since my name came up I thought it might be useful for me to state for the record that Abrams and I have *not* met. For whatever that’s worth.”

So one could loosely interpret that as being Thrawn isn’t in Star Wars ….

Wish was nice of him to do as there's enough lies and mistruths out there already without people having to get their nickers in a twist about whether a blue smurf will appear in the movies ;)

Texts from Last Night about Star Wars

star wars banner luke vader han bobba

Did you ever visit the website Texts from Last Night?

It's a collection of texts that people probably shouldn't have sent each other. On occasion they feature references to Star Wars and their drunken adventures. Actually it would seem Star Wars fans drink a lot, have sex a lot, drink and have sex a lot and argue about Star Wars being better than Star Trek alot....

Here's the best Star Wars texts from last night we could find!
  • my star wars tattoo got me laid last night. definitely a dark side sort of benefit im thinking
  • I dumped him because he's never seen star wars. I'm certain I did the right thing.
  • She called me Spock and proceeded to ask me to 'teach her the ways of the force'. I just couldn't do it after that. No way am I fucking a girl who can't tell the difference between Star Wars and Star Trek.
  • No. It is not rude if you don't go to her cat's Star Wars themed birthday party.
  • She asked the class if starwars was based on a true story...
  • no, I didn't go in the end. Too hungover and hot, plus Star Wars is on so obviously I'm having a naked day.
  • I think his glow in the dark Star Wars sheets, at the time, really turned me on.
  • you just started pointing at the light and whispering "star wars"
  • I was brewing with hops during the movie and that was that.
  • i just spent an hour trying to convince my blind date that star wars is better thanstar trek. help me
  • Sad fact: I'm doing that thing where I'm bored so I give myself Princess Leia hair and drink alcohol.
  • There is a 1000000% chance you'll be turned down if you try coming on to me while I watch Star Wars.
  • He was just lying on the living room floor watching Star Wars with six empty pack of cigarettes and two empty cases of beer. (Maybe it should have been cloned beer? - Ed)
  • I got a Luke Skywalker costume so I can go do battle with the homeless guy who plays the fiddle dressed as Darth Vader downtown.
  • We go out, we get drunk, we watch Star Wars, we pass out. What's wrong with this tradition?
  • i told her i loved her afterwards and she said "i know," kissed me, and got up to start making breakfast. The reply - dude, she han solo'd you. keep her.
  • Anddon't worry about me I have my Darth Vader flashlight
  • He's talking about me being Slave Princess Leia and how he'll chain me up. I don't have the heart to point out that he would be Jabba in that scenario...Is it bad that his lack of SW knowledge is destroying my lady boner?
  • She is larger then a hippo. You could cut her open in the middle of a blizzard and crawl in like Luke skywalker. Throw a couch and a tv in there and you're set
  • Han Solo would be ashamed of me.
  • I wont be hard to find. Im wearing a darth vader mask and I have a megaphone.
  • Everyone called me "Barf Vader".. And I lost your lightsaber.
And there you have it, when Star Wars fans send text messages, they really know how to share their true, disturbing feelings about Star Wars and their associated shennigans!

Meet 'Chopper' the new droid character from Star Wars Rebels. He's actually a cat.

Chopper-starwars-droid-rebels

Meet Chopper. He's the new lead droid character for Star Wars Rebels. Who needs RD2D when you have this guy? Well, we'll always need R2 but it's cool to see another astromech unit will become a featured player in the Expanded Star Wars universe.

Dave Filoni who you may know as a big deal at Lucasfilm says of Chooper:

"The easiest way to sum up Chopper that we took to on the writing team is that; If Artoo's your favorite Dog, Chopper's a Cat."

When our heroes get old, they simply get old

We've noticed a lot of people commenting on how Star Wars 'Big 3' have aged badly or are simply surprised at how they look. These comments are largely directed at Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill.

This is possibly due to the fact they are not in the public eye as often or as widespread as Harrison Ford is.

I think some people are disappointed that Carrie no longer has the body that made the slave bikini famous. Jedi was 30 years ago, it's ridiculous to think Fisher's body is still perky or that Hamill still has his wide eyed blonde good locks (and locks).

peter mayhew
When 900 years old you reach...
What I've also noticed is that even as Peter Mayhew has aged just as much as the other cast, he doesn't come in for such commentary. I figure that's largely due to people seeing him on screen as a furry Wookie and thus his 'classic look' is not anchored into people's brains as Ford's Solo 'look' is.

Anthony Daniels, who played C3PO is an exception, he must have  found a handy fountain of youth at the back of his garden as he's looking pretty good!

People will just need to accept that every one has become a lot older and they'll have some lines across their faces, they won't walk as tall as they may have in the past and perhaps not be featured wearing a bikini.

This next Star Wars movie is probably going to be a last hurrah for the Big 3 as it would seem a good guess the film is setting up a new saga and will hopefully feature a new set of heroes for us to love and cheer on as we chomp on our ever more expensive popcorn on opening night.

Mark Hamill has done an AMA on Reddit and he gave some great insights into the films that made him famous.

Mark Hamill has done an Ask Me Anything session on Reddit.

Here’s some of the interesting exchanges with the keen hordes of Star Wars fans. Nice to see Hamill talk about Tosche Station and the infamous Holiday Special.

Did you ever expect Star Wars to be such a critical success?

I didn't expect it to be a critical success, I thought people would like it, because it took so many elements from movies we were familiar with, pirate, cowboy movies, war movies, and added humor. That's the thing that got me. Science fiction usually isn't funny. They have an 8 ft furry dog driving a spaceship, he's naked except headphones, that's funny. Even if it doesn't get great reviews it'll be a cult movie. People will go watch it at midnight because its so unique. I thought it would be popular but never thought it would be on the cover of Time magazine.

Mr. Hamill, when I was six, all I wanted to be was you (Luke) and save the galaxy in my starfighter. Who was your hero when you were six?

I used to watch superman on TV, and i loved the idea of flying. i used to wonder if i wanted to fly like superman or peter pan. Peter Pan looked like it was more fun, superman was so bolt straight. And i loved Zorro, the old Disney Zorro. What is it with guys with secret identities who go out and fight crime? And James bond. I loved all that stuff.

Apparently Carrie Fisher let it slip that you guys will be in Episode 7, any response?

The only character I know for sure is returning is my friend R2-D2. He hasn’t stopped beeping about it.

How proud are you of the Star Wars Holiday Special? Did you know at the time of shooting it that it would turn out the way it did?

Oh yeah. I thought it was a mistake from the beginning. It was just unlike anything else in the Star Wars universe. And I initially said that I didn't want to do it, but George said it would help keep Star Wars in the consciousness and I wanted to be a team player so I did it. And I also said that I didn't think Luke should sing, so they cut that number. And now, I think we shouldn't be ashamed of it. They should put on the extra of the DVD's - it shows how incredibly fallible we are! At that same time, it did introduce Boba Fett in an animated sequence, so it's significant in that respect. Plus Art Carney was in it, who is one of my favorite comedic actors of all time.

Are you still upset that you weren't able to pick up those power converters?

I get ribbed for that line because it was so whiney. And I remember at the time, I had to make it as juvenile as possible so that I can show how Luke matures later. So it should be embarrassing. It should be whiney and childish. But boy, has it come back to haunt me. I don't think I ever got the chance to finally pick them up.

11 of the best Emperor Palpatine quotes from the Star Wars films

concept art force lightning jedi

So be it, Jedi! - Palpatine's quotes

The above four words are our favourite line in the entire Star Wars franchise and they were delivered by the most evil of all the evil characters in Star Wars, Emperor Palpatine.

If you're coming into Star Wars from the original perspective you'll know him as a ugly figure who was briefly seen in Empire and was the full on villain of Return of the Jedi.

His quotes and lines are full of venom and contempt for the Rebels and in particular for Luke.

If you're coming into Star Wars from the prequels point of view the Emperor is actually The Senator from Naboo - a Sith Lord in disguise.

His quotes and lies are the real focus of the films, a lesson in duplicity and a key character around which the plot turns.

The Phantom Menace

He seems such a nice fellow when he address the forum but he's a callous bugger and this is all his own doing. Ian McDairmid plays this character to perfection as he laces his lines with venom:

Fellow Senators, Honored delegates. A tragedy has engulfed our system which started right here with the taxation of Trade Routes. And after all the fuss has died down:

And you, young Skywalker; we shall watch your career with great interest. What does he know about young Anakin?

To state our allegations, I present Queen Amidala, recently elected ruler of the Naboo, who speaks on our behalf.
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one - now the stuff of internet member legend.

Attack of the Clones

Palpatine's motives and plots are becoming even more obvious during Clones however he is still subtly maneuvering around Anakin Skywalker:

Palpatine: You don't need guidance, Anakin. In time, you will learn to trust your feelings. Then, you will be invincible. I have said it many times, you are the most gifted Jedi I have ever met.
Young Anakin: Thank you, Your Excellency.
Palpatine: I see you becoming the greatest of all the Jedi, Anakin. Even more powerful than Master Yoda.

It's a shame we never did see such as fight. Well shame is the wrong word but what a match up that could have been!

The Sith Lord asks of a little green jedi:

"Master Yoda. Do you really think it will come to war?"

It seems an innocent enough question but make not mistake, Palpatine has caused the Clone War by his own machinations.

This naturally leads to the shift in power to the Sith Lord:

And as my first act with this new authority, I will create a grand army of the Republic to counter the increasing threats of the Separatists.

Revenge of the Sith

And with this seemingly innocuous question, Palpatine leads Anakin down the path to the dark side of the Force:

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis "the wise"?

In a key scene, Mace Windu has bravely beaten a Sith Lord in a saber duel:

Mace Windu: The oppression of the Sith will never return! You, my lord, have lost!
Sidius takes off his guise: No... no... no! YOU WILL DIE!

But Anakin turns up and ruins the day... it's cool to note Anakin hears the Emperor say this to two people as he's about to zap them with Force lightning, obviously to Windu but also to his son Luke in Return of the Jedi.

Pretty sure it's a clever piece of script writing by George Lucas to have Revenge of the Sith do this call back.

sidius emperor empire strikes

The Empire Strikes Back

Considered by many to be one of the best sequels of any film in history, Empire briefly introduced us to the Emperor. Vader and Palpatine have a short but concise conversation about getting that Skywalker kid to join their team, here's the whole quoted exchange:

Darth Vader: What is thy bidding, my master?
Emperor: There is a great disturbance in the Force.
Darth Vader: I have felt it.
Emperor: We have a new enemy, the young Rebel who destroyed the Death Star. I have no doubt this boy is the offspring of Anakin Skywalker.
Darth Vader: How is that possible?
Emperor: Search your feelings, Lord Vader. You will know it to be true. He could destroy us.
Darth Vader: He's just a boy. Obi-Wan can no longer help him.
Emperor: The Force is strong with him. The son of Skywalker must not become a Jedi.
Darth Vader: If he could be turned, he will become a powerful ally.
Emperor: Yes. He would be a great asset. Can it be done?
Darth Vader: He will join us or die, my master.

Return of the Jedi

This movie saw Palpatine in full Darth Sidius mode - his all out desire for power meant his goal was to turn Luke to the Dark Side of the Force and make him his puppet as he had his father.

Strike me down!
Luke: Soon I'll be dead, and you with me.
The Emperor: Perhaps you refer to the imminent attack of your rebel fleet? Yes, I assure you, we are quite safe from your friends here.
Luke Skywalker: Your overconfidence is your weakness.
The Emperor: Your faith in your friends is yours.

A strong exchange indeed.

Emperor: I'm looking forward to completing your training. In time you will call *me* master.
Luke: You're gravely mistaken. You won't convert me as you did my father.
Emperor: Oh no, my young Jedi. You will find that it is you who are mistaken, about a great many things.
Luke: Never. I'll never turn to the Dark Side. You've failed, your highness. I am a Jedi, like my father before me.

Young fool…only now, at the end, do you understand.

And the best quote till last, delivered with a pile of bile by the Emperor:

The Emperor: So be it... Jedi!

So there were go, not all the Emperor's lines but enough of the ones to show what a bastard he really was!

Lucas is Canon, everything else is Extended Universe

There has been a bit of internet chatter about how Star Wars canon was being settled at the moment. We ignored most of it as there was too much fan boy speculation based on a single statement on twitter that had no depth.

But the pundits' attention was enough for a reporter to ask That Special Lady in charge of Star Wars, Kathleen Kennedy was the deal on canon now was, and she makes it very clear:

"George was so clear as to how that works. The canon that he created was the Star Wars saga. Right now, episode seven falls within that canon. The spin-off movies, or we may come up with some other way to call those films, they exist within that vast universe that he created"

Which we interpret as anything George has hands on with was canon, anything else is extended universe material. So can we assume them there will be no cloned Emperor to contend with?

But then  Kennedy made the waters a little muddy:

"There is no attempt being made to carry characters (from the standalone films) in and out of the saga episodes. Consequently, from the creative standpoint, it's a roadmap that George made pretty clear"

That last one is possibly not a statement about canon but it does offer an insight into the stand alone films - they could be about anything within the Star Wars universe. Which means KK basically said nothing much new on the Star Wars front!

Darth Talon cosplay by Player Two

darth talon cosplay

Here's some impressive, most impressive, Darth Talon cosplay by Kiara who is perhaps better known as Player Two!

Player Two said of the photo shoot and choice of character:

"When I came across Talon a year ago I fell in love with the character. She's not only a strong female character but is also a seductress, which I love. I also fell in love with the look of the character and I hope, with the help of Roxy Lee GG, I was able to bring her to life. The body painting itself took 4 long hours to do, but I think it was well worth it. I'm extremely pleased."

Here's Oola, the green Twilek's wardrobe slip in Jedi!

So yes, there are nipples in Return of the Jedi. Green ones actually. It's a blink and you'll miss it moment but nipples on green boobs can definitely be seen in a Star War movie:

Green space nipples.
Given that legend has it Carrie Fisher had to tape down her breasts whilst filming A New Hope (as they kept bouncing around which distracted from 'the look' Lucas was going for) it's pretty amusing for some cleavage action to occur in Jedi.

You can watch the green topless titty explosion video right here.

Sorry about the quality - any one have it on blue ray?
So what's the deal with these naughty nipples popping out from the Twilek's costume? It's the greatest wardrobe malfunction ever filmed in a movie.

Only Janet Jackson's at the Superbowl comes close.

And that was real life.

It happens when Oola is dancing for the grotesque Jabba the Hutt, she gets the girls out.

It's like Lucas was doing some kind of really weird homage to Star Trek...

The legend, the myth and the balls of Admiral Gial Ackbar

Admiral Ackbar in the Battle of Endor

Facts about Admiral Ackbar

Probably the most popular character in the history of movies that looks like a giant gold fish, Admiral Ackbar was one of the heroes in the Battle of Endor, commanding Rebel fleet with enough resolve to give the Millennium Falcon enough time to carry out it's mission.

But who is this character? Where did he come from and what kind of stuff is he made from?

Origin of the character in Return of the Jedi pre-production

During a production meeting where George Lucas, film Director Richard Marquand, and others players had divided up their coterie of aliens between foreground and background creatures, Lucas offered Marquand the chance to create a legend:

“George suddenly said to me, ‘Who’s going to play Admiral Ackbar? I just decided he should be a creature, so you can pick out Admiral Ackbar.’ I said, ‘George, I think this should be your decision. He’s one of your new characters here.’

And he said, ‘No, you choose.’”

Marquand then determined to choose "the most delicious, wonderful creature out of the whole lot, this great big wonderful Calamari man with a red face and eyes on the side.”

It was a painting by concept artist Nilo Rodis-Jamero.

According to Marquand, “One or two people around the table, who shall be nameless, said they thought it was a terrible idea: ‘People are just going to laugh when they see this guy.’”

admiral ackbar concept design by artist Nilo Rodis-Jamero
It's a piece of concept art!

So what species of creature is Ackbar?

He is a Mon Calamari a sentient species indigenous to the world of Dac. Many fans simply refer to the Mon Calamari as Calamari.

They are humanoid in shape and form and stand about 1.7m tall.

They are most commonly seen with salmon-coloured skin tones. Rogue One's Admiral Raddus was a blue grey colour because he came from a cooler climate than Ackbar.

What is Ackbar’s back story? How did he join the Rebel Alliance?

The expanded Star Wars universe has come to the party and back filled the origin of Ackbar. The short version is Mon Calamari was attacked by the Galactim Empire and Ackbar was forced to act as an interpreter for Grand Moff Tarkin.

He was freed from captivity during a failed attempt by Rebel forces to capture Tarkin.

He joined the Rebel Alliance and helped convince his species to support the cause, playing an integral part in persuading his people to contribute their fleet of starships to the Rebel Alliance. Ackbar then built his way up in the Rebel Alliance to the point that he was seen as an Admiral in Jedi.

What kind of stuff is Ackbar made from?

In Jedi Ackbar senses that the Rebel forces are over run and he signals a retreat which seems like a pussy thing to be doing at time like that but he was able to be convinced by Lando Calrissian do stick it out a little longer. He then set to work and managed the fleet er admirably well showing a clear head for battle conditions.

Kirk Thatcher with various Ackbars and Calamari friends

What is the origin of the quote "It's a trap"?

Everyone knows that Ackbar's phrase "It's a trap!" has became almost more famous that Ackbar himself. But that was not the original line in Kasdan's script for Jedi. The actual words were, "It's a trick!"

During post production it was felt the line didn't quite have the desired effect. The change is now the stuff of Star Wars and film making legend.

What is his full name? Where does Gial come from?

The first name of Ackbar's character, Gial, was not formal published until the 2012 release of the Star Wars reference book The Essential Guide to Warfare, some 28 years after Ackbar first appeared on the silver screen!

Such was Ackbar's enduring popularity, he was brought back for a small role in The Force Awakens as a military advisor to Princess Leia.

No, we don't know Carrie Fisher's bra size.

Amazing Princess Leia photos

Carrie Fisher is a great lady. She has a bit of sass and a bit of charm that translates so well into her Leia character. You can see from these awesome photos that there's a bit of a sparkle in her eyes.

What do think she's wondering about in the bikini picture below? Her exploitation? Her giant pay check? Carbs?

carrie fisher jedi bra costume

Which is good and all as the stitching on the swimsuit bikini is indeed exquisite and an example of quality craftsmanship and should be the subject of such massive amounts of study.

So in a case of giving the fans what they want, here’s the top 9 gratuitous pictures of Carrie Fisher we could find for your personal research and study.

Let's start with Carrie as a Playboy bunny:

Carrie Fisher in play boy bunny costume

And then quickly move to Carrie wearing nothing much but a small white lace bra and a pearl necklace:

Carrie complemented her outfit with a nice pearl necklace
Having gone through these pictures of Carrie Fisher running around in a swimsuit bikini whilst serving drinks to and choking a Hutt Lord, we couldn’t help but notice her hair.

It’s always simply perfectly washed and conditioned.

Where does she find such products on Tatooinne?

It’s not like Jabba let her out once a week to do a round of grocery shopping or sun bathing once a week is it?

Does Jabba order them in?

Does he do it online or does he send someone into Mos Eisely? These are the pressing questions that need to be answered.

Oh forget it, here's Carrie in bed with a young Tom Hanks, wearing leopard skin print top and bottoms.

What was she thinking wearing that leopard print bra and panties set? No wonder Tom looks like he just through up a little bit. Just a bit.
