I'm currently reading the short story collection Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina for the first time. It's a good read and perhaps more consistent than Tales of the Bounty Hunter was.
I just finished a story that might have served as some inspiration for the character of Finn in The Force Awakens.
In the teaser trailer. Finn is the storm trooper that now famously jumped up into the screen shot in the trailer. He appears to be a stormtrooper and he appears to be in a spot of bother. Is he on the run?
Internet scuttlebutt suggests that Finn's character has decided he doesn't want to be a Trooper any more after apparently being ordered to burn down a village.
Enter a short story called 'When the dust wind turns, a Stormtroopers tale'. The protagonist is a newish recruit who comes to realise serving the Emperor is not for him and after murdering his Captain in a firefight with Han Solo during the escape sequence on Mos Eisley, he resolves to become a spy for the Rebels.
If the rumours of Finn's character development are true one can only wonder how this short story may have helped inspired it.
This author is not hugely well read in the Star Wars expanded universe - are there any other tales out there of stormtroopers who have defected to the Rebels?
