Was Anakin Skywalker drawing Kylo Ren to the light?

drawing of darth vader with helment off

In TFA, was Anakin Skywalker drawing Kylo Ren to the light?

If so, he failed and failed badly.

But let's chat first before we crucify the former Sith Lord.

In The Force Awakens, Kylo Ren appears to be struggling with his place in the Universe. He clearly wants to embrace his dark side and follow in his Grand Father's foot steps and finish what he started (whatever that was). He also states to Vader's mask that he wants to be shown again.

We have no idea what he was shown.

But we do know as he told his father Han Solo just before he murdered him that he was struggling with what turned out to be being drawn to the light side of the Force.

What was calling him? What was causing this? Was it Anakin Skywalker? Was he trying to bring Kylo Ren back from going full retard by partnering fully with Snoke?

If so, he failed.

But what if it was not Anakin, was there another entity drawing Ben back to the Light? Who else had reason to try? A certain Jedi Knight in self isolation at the first Jedi Temple?

If so he failed too.

My spidey sense tells me, that if this theory has any basis of reality, it will be Luke.

Of course, given that Vader is making an appearance in Rogue One, the clamour for more Vader will be big - and what film studio could resist the cash cow that Vader is? So, if Vader's Force ghost could appear in The Last Jedi or IV, having him working to redeem Kylo Ren could be a way to do it.

Is that grumpy guy from Oasis to blame for The Phantom Menace sucking? *

Noel Gallagher, of Oasis fame, got to have a light saber duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi.

"Ewan McGregor was my neighbour, right, and he came round my house the night he got the part of Obi-Wan Kenobi. I just happened to have two of those lightsaber toys, so I said, “Come on — in the back garden.” And we had a f*cking lightsaber fight. His first Jedi training session was with yours truly in my back garden at eight in the morning."

So is he too blame for The Phantom Menace sucking?

* calm down, I'm only trolling.

Meet Rogue One's Edrio Two Tubes

Meet Rogue One's Two Tubes

This version of the Rogue One character was put officially on display at a Star Wars convention. He looks pretty cool - so named for his breathing tubes he appears to be an X-Wing pilot of some kind.

His look is parts Darth Vader, part Mad Max.

This is what Two Tubes from Rogue One looks like
Two Tubes from Rogue One

Here's the official biography of Two Tubes from

Edrio 'Two Tubes' is a mercenary pilot who flies alongside his eggmate, Benthic. The two share the nickname derived from the breathing apparatus that allows their Tognath physiology to process oxygen atmospheres. Edrio’s home world Yar Togna was conquered and occupied by the Empire, forcing him to flee as a refugee. Desiring to strike back at the Empire, Edrio and Benthic have allied with Saw Gerrera."

Have you met Bistan yet?

Meet Bistan from Rogue One

Bistan from Rogue One. He's a Lakaru.

He was the best moment from the Rogue One teaser trailer - meet Bistan.

Bistan is a species known as a Lakaru. In Rogue One he's plays a Rebel. We saw him as a gunner on a U-Wing.

Bistan's home planet is currently unknown.

He is played by Nick Kellington in costume and mask. The face is controlled by animatronics via radio.

We can imagine that he's a blink and you'll miss him moment in the film but now that he's got a bit of internet fame they will try and put as much of him as they can in the movie !

Bistan looks likely to become even more popular than The Force Awakens' 'Traitor!' Stormtrooper....

The case for Bail Organa surviving the destruction of Alderaan andmaking an appearance in VIII

So, if our eyes are not deceiving us, it could well be that Bail Organa is set for a role of sorts in Rogue One. It's likely to be a brief cameo appearance. Will Jimmy Smits return to the character he played so effortlessly well in Revenge of the Sith?

Edit: Smits has confirmed he has a cameo in Rogue One.

This speculation is based on the most brief and obscure short from the Rogue One Celebration Reel:

A cameo for Bail Organa in Rogue One?

Is this Jimmy Smits as Bail Organa? If you're not clued up as to who he is, let's put this another way, is this Princess Leia Organa's adoptive father? He's got the same beard that Organa had in the prequels.

If so, that will be a pretty cool cameo as it was Organa who had a key role in forming the Rebel Alliance and helping out Yoda escape from the Jedi Temple in Revenge of the Sith.

It was previously thought that Bail died during A New Hope when his home planet of Alderaan was destroyed by the Death Star to show Leia how serious Tarkin was about finding the Rebel Base.

We wonder though, given Rogue One and A New Hope are so close together in time frames (and we are picking the ending of Rogue One will be Vader heading off to chase Leia's ship) is Bail Organa actually on Alderaan when it is blown up? Is he perhaps still on the Rebel base? Is he perhaps travelling to Alderaan and never quite makes it?

How cool would it be if Bail Organa was alive and well and made it through the events of A New Hope. It has never been explicitly stated in a Star Wars movie that he's dead.

If so, there could be scope for him turning up in Star Wars VIII. It's just a fan boy hope and he's better placed to be in Rogue One so we'll see how it pans out.

Truth be told, the costume looks to be more of a military leader's outfit rather than a politician.

Update: This is all now redundant - In Rogue One, Bail makes it clear he's heading to Alderraan.

The 4 key things to come out of Star Wars Celebration 2016

Rogue One concept art released during Star Wars Celebration featuring cut characters Senna and Lunka
Here's the key details from Star Wars Celebration 2016

Star Wars Celebration 2016 lit up the universe like a Katy Perry firework with a massive set of announcements and reveals. Let's not muck around, here's the 5 key pieces of Star Wars news that came out, including details on Rogue One.

A behind the scenes look at Rogue One was released

Ah yes, Rogue One's sizzle reel - some cool shots from the movie intercut with some loving bullshit from the film's director. They key take away's are it looks very different to any other Star Wars film, it basically looks like it was shot with a fancy Instagram filter. Jyn Erso blew everyone's mind when she said "May the Force be with us".

It looks like Bail Organa might have a sneaky cameo and everyone's favourite Star Wars little person (Kenny Baker doesn't count, we understand he's a grumpy old man), Warwick Davis has yet another Star Wars cameo. Awesome sauce.

Check out the behind the scenes teaser here.

Smurfs are taking over the universe!

We couldn't resist a jab but the big news is that Grand Admiral Thrawn is back into legit Star Wars canon by virtue of being revealed as the big blue bad guy (along with Maul) of season 3 of Star Wars: Rebels.

Thrawn is his anti-jedi friends
This was many a Star Wars fanboy or girl's wet dream come true. This mainstream introduction of Thrawn will probably cause many to back and read the original novels by Timothy Zahn  - but they should bear in mind that Zahn as written a new Thrawn novel, simply called Thrawn

Rogue One's Title Crawl might not be happening

Kathleen Kenedy let it be known that the Rogue One movie is likely to not have a Star Wars crawl. This seems a little odd given the tradition but this is a side story. I can't recall if the Ewok movies had a crawl but hey, who cares, it's Star Wars baby!

Oh, someone dies in Rogue One

During a panel discussion one of the actors who was speaking in English as his second language let slip a major spoiler that a certain character dies in the movie. We'll not name names here, go on Reddit and have a look if you need - we're not surprised, we think that everyone is going to die in Rogue One. We just have a feeling it's that kind of movie. Kind of like the classic Battle Beyond the Stars.

Well, that's a fair bit of news about Star Wars - can you believe at the time of writing this update, it was only 151 days until Rogue One is released!

The official Rogue One poster is here for you to download

Yep, Star Wars celebration saw the release of the official poster for Rogue One. It's unlike any other Star Wars poster that has been released. Dare we say it, it almost looks like a video game poster.

Watch the Revenge of the Jedi trailer from 1982

Watch the Revenge of the Jedi trailer from 1982

You may have once heard that what we know as the Return of the Jedi was once known as Revenge of the Jedi. Indeed, posters were made and sent out to movie theatres that featured Darth Vader’s large visage with Luke fighting Vader positioned just about the film’s title.

What this author only just learned was that a ‘trailer’ of sorts was released for the film and it accompanied re-screenings of the first two movies.

It’s a combination of words, music and still images taken from the movie i.e. there is no action in it. Have a look:

Did you pick up that Han Solo was featured hanging out with Luke and was also tied up? Given Han Solo was left frozen in carbonite at the end of Empire, that was a pretty big movie spoiler right there for anyone in the theatre! Apparently this trailer was shown in the United Kingdom in 1982.

We understand that George Lucas changed his mind out the word Revenge as he felt that Jedi themselves would not actually seek to gain revenge.

In the end, Return sounds more hopeful, more triumphant and indeed it’s a better story when you consider the last act of the film is about Vader’s journey and how in saving Luke from the Emperor, he fulfils the prophecy about him being the Chosen One and in doing so, becomes a Jedi again.

Lucas clearly did like the word Revenge as he used it in the third prequel film title, Revenge of the Sith.
