Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow is off the Star Wars IX film project.

Here's the official word:

"Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on Star Wars: Episode IX. Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon."

So how many directors have been booted from a modern Star Wars project?

Let's count them:

  • Josh Trank - unannounced project which we can guess as a Bbba Fett vehicle
  • Phil Lord and Christopher Miller - Han Solo
  • Colin Trevorrow - Untitled IX

So that's four directors from 3 Star Wars movies given the boot.

We could almost add Rogue One director Gareth Edwards to that list as he was not involved in the re-shoots of Rogue One which by most measures saved the film.

Hey, here's an amusing picture:

In terms of Trank's firing, we understand from internet scuttlebut that after the disastrous Fantastic Four reboot and his off set 'issues' he was considered too great a risk.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller had genuine creative differences and were unwilling to bend to the needs of the producer and were given a firm boot by Kathy Kennedy.

And now less than two months later, Kathy has given Colin Trevorrow a bus ticket home.

This news coming on the heels of box office flop, The Book of Henry doesn't appear to put Colin in a good light however his dinosaur movie was pretty handy and Safety Not Guaranteed was an absolutely charming movie so go figure.

So who is going to be put in the director's chair. The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson? Han Solo movie director Richie Cunningham?

Those would be two safe bets.

Here's what we think would be a brave call: Lawrence Kasdan for the gig!

Time will tell.
