How Kylo Ren finished what Darth Vader started

In The Force Awakens, Kylo Ren has a chat with Lord Vader's recovered iconic helmet.

He's clearly got grandaddy issues when he says "I will finish what you started".

What did this mean?

We never really got an explicit answer from the sequel films that followed.

We did learn in The Rise of Skywalker that Kylo had not been in communion with Vader but it was the Emperor Palpatine the whole time. He'd been working over Ben Solo for a long time. '

Heck, the nerds on the internet saw this coming from a mile off:

Sometimes however a broken clock is correct twice a day, and so to answer the question of what Kylo was going to finish, one bright spark put this together:

i will finished what you started

It's kind of clever eh?

But let's not take it at face value.

The love story between Kylo Ren and Rey is cute and all but when Kylo utters that line in The Force Awakens we can be pretty sure he is not talking about using the Force to bring back dead people to life.

It was actually a part of director and script writer JJ Abram's Mystery Box concept - make up some cool shit, and fix the details later.

There was never an intention for Kylo Ren to suddenly find this power within himself at the right time. Reber, Rian Johnson was writing The Last Jedi at the same time as The Force Awakens was filming - there was no pre determined path, it was all made up along the way - meaning it was never the intention that Kylo Ren finishing what Vader started would be harnessing the power of the Force to bring the dead back to life.

Still, it's a cool idea.

  1. I guess it's not important that "it was never the intention ", It's beautiful and smart anyway.
