Chapter 3: Book of Boba Fett Review 'The Streets of Mos Espa'

Jan 12, 2022

Spoilers in play.

After last week's sandy epic (hey how you doin' David Lean), The Tribes of Tatooine in which we learned how Boba Fett and his brutal Gaffi stick became a tribe member of a tribe of Sand People and nothing much in the current timeline happened, what the heck happened in Chapter 3?

chapter 3 book of boba fett

Directed by Robert Rodriquez, Chapter 3 builds on what came before and starts the main timeline story in earnest - the first true 'in roads' into becoming a crime lord are dealt with in Fett fashion.

But let's recall the name of this show. It's the Book of Boba Fett.

This means it's the story of how Fett escaped from the Sarlacc Pitt and fell into the hands of a tribe Sand People who kidnapped him but eventually made him one of their own (refer The Tribes of Tatooine episode).

And something happened which we suspected would occur, Fett's people were slaughtered.

And that is going to send the internet into a freaking frenzy after all the shipping that went on last week.

So as to plot, we get some great scenes such as an assassination attempt by The Black Wookie, and the gift by the Hutt Twins of a new rancour for the pit.

Let's talk Krrsantan's assassination attempt. He threw Fett into a heavy machine with such massive Wookie force (TWICE), such violence would kill any human yet Fett lives and has but a headache.

I hate that shit.

And why is no one on guard duty when Fett is in his Bacta tank?

And then we get the most cheesy, lame-ass moment in quite some time, a speeder chase with Fett's new street imps against the Mos Espa Mayor's 'main guy'.

The speeders had a very out of place colour system. It was the Power Ranger colours like they ran over Spy Kids or something.

It was all wrong and looked stupid as they 'raced' through at turtle speed against the dry dust of the roads of Mos Eisley.

Should have gone the 'faster, more intense' route...

Director Robert Rodriquez (yes the same one that did the awesome season 2 episode which formally introduced Boba back into Star Wars) should be embarrassed about that scene, it's gonna go down as bad Star Wars. The recruits' so-called cybernetics were also unimpressive and if they were so deadly how did Wookie Black Krrsantan best them fairly easily?

This all reveals the Pykes are truly running the show in town and Fett has his work cut out for him as the Daimyo of Tatooine.

Frankly, this was the part that bored us till we get to the chorus.

Which we hope will come next week as the episode simply ends. It feels like most of what has come before is a red herring of sorts. The Mayor is the bad guy! No, it's the Hutts! No! It's the Pykes.

This is fine but there are only 4 episodes left for anything meaty in the post Mando season two timeline to occur.

We get it, there's gonna be a showdown with the Pyke Syndicate.

How dull.

But do not count out the Hutt twins. No way would they quit the planet so easy.

The music was excellent.

We suspect we will see Boba Fett continue to recruit his base soldiers and we believe we will see Black Krrsantan become loyal to him at a very crucial key plot point near the end of the series.

Here's some concept art of Krrsantan taking on Fett by artist Christian Alzmann:

  • Spot the roaming spider robot outside the Palace. You may have seen that in Return of the Jedi.
  • Witches of Dathomir mentioned by Danny Trejo's character as riding Rancor
  • The 'Sand Kid' watching Boba Fett leave the camp on the Bantha mirrors the shot of Jango leaving Kamino in Slave 1 with Boba watching from his quarters.
  • Did you spot a certain mechanic Peli Motto (Amy Sedaris) and some pit droids from The Mandalorian?

  • The script likely made a reference to the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special when Fett uttered the line "I've ridden beasts 10 times its size" when speaking of his new pet Rancour. The Mandalorian show also made reference to Earth Day which came from the Special.
