How many arms have Wookies 'ripped off' people in Star Wars films?

Jan 22, 2022

Characters losing limbs is a real part of Star Wars lore. Obi-Wan Kenobi started the trend by defending Luke in A New Hope, Luke lost his own hand to his father and things came full circle when he return the favour to his Dark Father.

But what about Wookies ripping arms off people?

How many?

solo film - chewbacca rips arms off

Ever since Han Solo cooly warned C3PO and R2D2 when they were playing HoloChess on the Flacon with Chewie about the nature of his Wookie friend:

"It's not wise to upset a Wookiee... droids don't pull people's arms out of their sockets when they lose. Wookiees are known to do that."

At which point C3PO took the advice and politely suggested to R2 to "let the Wookie win!".

So when was the first time Star Wars films actually featured a scene where a Wookie would remove an arm from a socket?

Oddly enough, it was first supposed to occur in The Force Awakens but the scene was deleted from the final edit.

Unkar Plutt was Chewbacca's victim here. He had tracked the stolen Millenium Falcon and accosted Ray inside Maz Kanata's Castle:

So given that technically was not the first official time a Wookie ripped an arm from a socket on screen, when is it? Our Walking Carpet finally got his chance in the wonderful Han Solo film:

The scene is played for laughs and the damage part is done off-screen but Chewie is featured holding an arm in each hand:

So that's it, Chewbacca the Wookie has only ripped off one arm in the canon of the films.

But, given there's a certain show called The Book of Boba Fett that features comic book legend Black Krrsantan, there's a chance he would rip off an arm right?

We've got you covered.

In episode 4 'The Gathering Storm', the hulking beast drunkenly relieves a terrified Trandoshan of his limb, despite the best efforts of Garsa Fwip:

krrsantan ripps arm off trandoshan

So there you have it, despite a lot of arms being cut off by light sabres in Star Wars, in terms of the film and television cannon, Chewbacca has ripped off two limbs and Krrsantan one, meaning in total Wookies have ripped off 3 arms.
